About

About me

My name is Sheenaanne, I am a keen crafter and I love all things handmade. My love affair with Batik started a few years ago when I bought myself a sewing machine and became engrossed with making clothes. This led me to hunt for interesting fabrics and designs. Before too long I discovered batik, the enticing colours, the ethnic images and geometric prints, I was in love.

A few years later life presented an opportunity for me to have a sabbatical, six months break from the rat race. I knew I wanted to further my batik skills, I seized this chance to move to Malaysia. The tropical climate, medley of tasty food, the friendly people gave me a glorious back drop to learn the skill I wanted to master. I spent 6 months with the Artisan Masters of Craft Batik in Penang. They taught me how to use the tjanting tool and how to block print.

I am inspired by travel, I am fascinated by other cultures, I have an adventurous palate for tasty food and I am excited to learn new skills especially if they enable me to achieve beautiful and unique projects. I hope you too will share my love of all things ‘make’ and be inspired by doing batik.

Meet the Masters

Maketh by Me would not have existed without the support, help and skill exchange of my Malaysian friends, especially those artisans at Craft Batik. They gifted me memories and experiences that I will cherish for a lifetime. I am extremely grateful for their hospitality during my visit to their wonderful country.
