Ever fancied creating your own pattern on fabric? Batik is rich in colour and the patterns are alluring and enticing to the eye. This is the class to learn the basic techniques of batik. Using a tjanting tool and fabric dyes you will create a beautiful bespoke piece of fabric that can be used as a wall hanging or as part of another creative project. This ancient art uses wax to resist dye on cloth, the wax prevents the colours from running into one another. During this workshop you will practice using the tjanting tool, draw and wax your own design and the utilise dyes to colour your master piece.
I am inspired by ethic patterns and bright colours, I encourage you to come with images that inspire you. You are welcome to bring your own pictures, please have them printed on a sheet of A4 paper to allow easy transfer to the fabric. There will also be a collection of images to choose from, birds, animals and mandala circles.
This class is suitable for beginners and no prior skills are required. All you need is an interest in learning a new technique to create something bespoke and beautiful.
